How Does Your Donation Help?

Most people are familiar with the immediate known risks of on-the-job injuries that are associated with firefighting, but many are unaware of the hidden danger of firefighter occupational cancer.  Behind cardiac events, cancer is one of the leading causes of death for active firefighters.  Additionally, many firefighters are diagnosed with occupational cancer after they have entered retirement.  Occupational cancer is the leading cause of death for retired and active firefighters combined.

To continue Nathan’s legacy, The Phoenix Project 780 has made it our mission to raise awareness of firefighter occupational cancer and to help supply departments with much needed tools to help mitigate exposure levels.  No firefighter should have to fight occupational cancer because of their career.  There are departments across our country that are simply not financially able to supply their firefighters with the tools to help mitigate the carcinogenic exposures they encounter on fire scenes.  Thanks to our sponsors, we can help bridge the gap where there is a need. By joining us in our mission to encourage fire departments and firefighters to establish safer practices, your sponsorship will directly help give them the tools that they need to do so.  You can make an impact as a sponsor in so many ways.

Platinum ($5,000+):  As a platinum sponsor, your donation will allow us to purchase 1-2 extractor washing machines to be donated to a fire department/s.

Gold ($2,500-4,999):  As a gold sponsor, your donation will be combined with a second gold sponsorship allowing us to purchase one extractor washing machine to be donated to a fire department.

Silver ($1,000 -2,499):  As a silver sponsor, your donation will cover the shipping and installation cost of an extractor washing machine, plus the cost of an additional 5 gallons of CitroSqueeze gear cleaner to be used in the extractor.  It will also provide that department with a Phoenix Rising Initiative supply donation.

Bronze ($500-$999): As a bronze sponsor, your donation will cover the cost for a department to receive a Phoenix Rising Initiative supply donation box, as well as the shipping cost.

So, what does all of that actually mean…  An overwhelming need that can be so beneficial to multiple firefighters is simply having access to a washing machine that is designed to clean PPE.  By providing a fire station with a soft mount extractor, firefighters can use commercial grade washing machines that meet NFPA 1851:2020 requirements to get the soot and contaminants out of their gear.  There are so many departments in our country that don’t have washing machines of any sort at their stations so firefighters either aren’t washing their contaminated gear or they are taking it home or to laundry mats to wash it.  None of those are ideal situations.  Not only are the contaminants getting in their personal vehicles when they transport their gear, but they are also exposing toxins and cross contaminating washing machines that are used to clean personal clothing.   When you become a gold or platinum sponsor, you will impact an entire fire station by proving them with the proper tools to clean their gear so it can function at its best.  The NFPA soft mount extractors start at $6,400.

Additionally, each month we select one fire department to be the recipient of the Phoenix Rising Initiative.  This donation box is made possible thanks to the partnerships we have created that are rooted in firefighter safety.  We have proudly partnered with Thin Red Line Decon and SC Products.  These partnerships, along with general donations and fundraising efforts, allow the Phoenix Rising Initiative’s monthly donations {valued at over $500} to include the following decontamination products as well as cancer prevention and educational materials:

  • One case of Responder Wipes (8”x12” individually packaged wipes, 16 to a carton and 24 cartons to a case)
  • One gallon of CitroSqueeze PPE & Turnout Gear Cleaner + a one quart CitroSqueeze Spray bottle
  • One gallon of SC-14 Hard Surface Cleaner + a one quart SC-14 Spray bottle
  • Responder Wash Activated Charcoal Shampoo + Body Wash (2 8oz bottles)

*Responder Wipes are developed for first responders, including firefighters, police, EMS, HazMat, and disaster relief personnel. They are uniquely formulated with Micellar Water, an innovative ingredient with cleansing compounds that dissolve dirt, oil, soot, and other hydrocarbons. Micelles gently lift away toxins and contaminants to draw out impurities from pores while hydrating your skin more effectively than traditional cleansing wipes.

*Responder Wash Activated Charcoal Shampoo + Body Wash is designed to draw out harmful contaminants, toxins, and other impurities from the skin and hair. Formulated with activated charcoal, it washes away lingering odor for a detoxifying clean regular soap and shampoo cannot provide.

*CitroSqueeze PPE & Turnout Gear Cleaner is the leading technical detergent available in North America and has been the choice cleaner for PPE for over 20 years.  This biodegradable cleaner is great for cleaning oil, soot, grease, and other hydrocarbon contaminants off turnout gear, hoods, gloves, boots, and station wear.  It is the ONLY NFPA 1851 compliant PPE turnout gear cleaner that has been extensively tested by the industry’s textile suppliers on Nomex, PBI, Kevlar, Gore-tex, Scotchlite Retroreflective Fire Coat Trims, isodri outer shell fabrics, and Stedair.  CitroSqueeze is proven to maintain the protective quality of PPE and turnout apparel.

*SC-14 Hard Surface Cleaner is a ready to use, all-purpose cleaner and degreaser that works for all your station and tool cleaning needs. It is biodegradable, non-corrosive (near neutral pH), and environmentally safe allowing it to be used on painted metals, diamond plate, and chrome while still being tough on grease, grime, and hydrocarbons.  This product does not contain caustic ingredients such as Sodium Hydroxide or Sodium Metasilicate used in other common cleaners that can permanently damage painted surfaces, metals, glass, and decals.  SC-14 is an effective cleaner for trucks, equipment, SCBA tanks, thermal imaging cameras, nozzles, hoses, helmets, and cabs.
